NRA Basic Pistol Course   

 

July 5th & 6th 2013

At the Thayne Community Center

             

The NRA Basic Pistol Shooting Course introduces students to the knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary for owning and using a pistol safely.  Through this course, the students will learn about pistol parts and operation, ammunition, gun safety, pistol shooting fundamentals, and pistol shooting activities.  The Basic Pistol Course will also help prepare the student for participation in other NRA courses. This class meets the statutory requirements for the Wyoming Concealed Carry Permit.

The NRA Basic Pistol Course is perfect for beginners or those who have not handled a pistol in a while who would like a refresher.  The class is open to any person over the age of twelve.

The NRA Basic Pistol Course is comprised of an 8-hour block of classroom instruction plus range time.  Class size is limited to 16 students to ensure the best possible training environment.

  The fee for the class is $75.00 per person.

NRA Basic Pistol students will receive the following items as a part of the course:

-NRA Guide to the Basics of Pistol Shooting Handbook

-NRA Gun Safety Rules Brochure

-Basic Practical Rocker and Flyer

-Basic Firearm Training Program Brochure

-Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification Program Booklet

-Pistol Course Certificate

 NRA Basic Pistol students will need to bring the following items to class:

-A pen and/or pencil

-NO live ammunition is allowed in the classroom

 NRA Basic Pistol students will need to bring the following items to the shooting range:

-A pistol (unloaded and in a case) rentals are available upon request

-Approximately 50 rounds of ammunition for the pistol

-Pistol cleaning supplies

-Hearing protection

-Eye protection (prescription glasses and sunglasses are acceptable)

-Range appropriate clothing (NO shorts, sandals, open toe shoes, or low cut shirts are allowed)

-Weather appropriate clothing (winter clothing, rain wear, etc.)

-Hat (optional but recommended)

-Sunscreen and/or insect repellant as needed

NRA Personal Protection in the Home 

 

September 2013

At the Thayne Community Center                 

The NRA Basic Personal Protection in the Home Course introduces the students to defensive shooting, considering the ethics of personal protection, the importance of proper mindset, mental awareness, mental preparation, and physical conditioning.  The course exposes students to several schools of thought regarding defensive shooting techniques, and discusses the inherent strengths and weaknesses of a wide variety of positions, grips, stances, gun handling techniques, and reloading methods.  The NRA Basic Personal Protection in the Home Course discusses the law and the use of deadly force, strategies for home safety, responding to a violent conflict, selecting a pistol for self-defense, and opportunities for continued training.

The NRA Basic Personal Protection in the Home Course is for law-abiding adult citizens who have sufficient maturity and life experiences to be able to assess various situations and make mature decisions.  Participants must be experienced shooters; able to show mastery of the basic skills of safe gun handling, shooting a group, zeroing the firearm, and cleaning the firearm.  The NRA requires proof of shooting experience as a prerequisite to this class.  Proof can be one of the following: NRA Basic Pistol Course Certificate, NRA First Steps Course Certificate, NRA pistol competitive shooting qualification card, military DD 214 with pistol qualification, or passing the Pre-Course Assessment (which will be held at 11:00am, May 11, 2013 at the Thayne Community Center).

The NRA Basic Personal Protection in the Home Course is comprised of an 8 hour block of classroom instruction plus range time.  Class size is limited to 32 students to ensure the best possible training environment.  The fee for the class is $75.00 per person.

NRA Basic Personal Protection in the Home students will receive the following items as a part of the course:

-Basic Firearm Training Program Brochure

-Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification Program Booklet

-Weather appropriate clothing (winter clothing, rain wear, etc.)

-Hat (optional but recommended)

-Sunscreen and/or insect repellant as needed

-Knee pads (optional)
